Anti-Trafficking Translation Internship

Program Dates: June 1 - July 31, 2026

Application Deadline: March 31, 2026

About Us: Love Justice International (LJI) is a Christian nonprofit organization compelled by God’s love to fight the world’s greatest injustices. We fight injustice in two primary ways: through our expanding anti-human trafficking work and by caring for orphaned and abandoned children. We currently work throughout Asia and Africa.

Love Justice International is a certified Best Christian Workplace in 2021 - 2025. Click here for more information about us.

Position Type: Full Time (Internship); Support-Raised*; Overseas (South Africa)

  • If hired, the intern will be required to raise financial support to cover all expenses related to the internship including housing, transportation, food, and other relevant costs. Raising support is a key example of the body of Christ supporting its members and joining in the fight against injustice. LJI will provide administrative and prayer support throughout the process, as well as guidance and resources to build up a support base.

Position Overview: LJI's anti-human trafficking model focuses on transit monitoring. We identify, intercept, and assist trafficking victims as they are being transported—when victims and traffickers are the most visible and open to detection—and before they reach the destination where victims will be sold, hidden, and abused. Because the crime of trafficking has already commenced, we have access to actionable intelligence to apprehend suspects and understand trafficking methods. We have intercepted over 70,000 individuals to prevent them from being trafficked, and we have helped convict over 1,600 traffickers.

To ensure excellence and understanding among our field offices in Asia and Africa, Love Justice is in the process of translating our most important documents. There are a variety of documents, such as forms, instruction manuals, training materials, and posters that need translation. Love Justice currently internally translates into seven target languages (Amharic, Bangla, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Nepali, Portuguese, and Spanish). Accurate and timely translations are crucial to the understanding of our national partners, and as the Anti-Trafficking Translation Intern, you will play a key role in ensuring this by: 1) executing several translation projects and 2) researching and/or developing training materials for our other translators.

This internship period is from June 1 - July 31, 2026, is based in Ballito, South Africa, and reports to the Program Field Officer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Complete multiple translation projects in one of our target languages
    • Research and/or develop training materials for our other translators
    • Attend translation meetings to answer questions and make corrections to translation work as needed
    • Other translation-related and administrative tasks as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Mature Christian faith and agreement with our Global Value to “Abide in Christ”
  • Knowledge, understanding, and agreement with how the Christian Gospel ministers to “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40) and guides us in our mission
  • Agreement with our Core Value “Be the Kingdom”(both in the execution of our mission and in our personal lives)
  • Acknowledgement of our Statement of Faith
  • High standard of personal discipline
  • Strong self-starting initiative and problem-solving abilities with minimal oversight
  • Flexibility in ever-changing work environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and one of our target languages
  • Proficiency with Google Docs in English and target language
  • Understanding of the cultural nuances of both the source and target languages to ensure translations are contextually appropriate
  • Ability to carefully review and edit translations for accuracy and clarity, keeping all formatting and avoiding errors that could change the meaning
  • Willing and able to pass language quiz
  • Research skills
  • Willing to collaborate with team members, ask questions when uncertain, and provide regular updates
  • At least two years of undergraduate study
  • Coursework in linguistics or translation studies is a plus
