Clinical Lead, Economic Empowerment Program

About Us: Love Justice International (LJI) is a Christian nonprofit driven by a singular mission: to share the love of Jesus Christ by fighting the world’s greatest injustices. We pursue this calling through two primary efforts—our expanding anti-human trafficking work and the care of orphaned and abandoned children.

We are looking for faithful, compassionate, and mission-driven problem-solvers—people who think deeply about how to fight injustice and share Christ’s love in a broken world. This isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. If you’re searching for an easy, comfortable career, there are plenty of other options. But if you’re drawn to work that demands sacrifice, boldness, and faith, we invite you to apply and explore how you can be part of this mission.

Love Justice International has been recognized as a Best Christian Workplace for five consecutive years (2021–2025), most recently achieving the “Flourishing” category—the highest level of organizational health. What We Offer: Opportunities to truly change lives are exceptionally rare—but at LJI, that is exactly the kind of impact you can have. Although we’re a nonprofit, we operate as an “Impact Engineering” organization, focused solely on maximizing real-world outcomes. By combining scientific and business principles with field-led, locally informed insights, we intercept potential trafficking victims for under $150 each, creating a ripple effect that prevents several more individuals from enslavement. This remarkable efficiency underscores the profound, far-reaching impact your work can have on countless lives.

Joining LJI means stepping into an opportunity to deeply impact lives by combating injustice and expressing the transformative love of Christ. At LJI, you'll be part of a connected, purpose-driven team committed to impactful, kingdom-class excellence.

This contract role is structured to fit alongside an established clinical practice. Compensation is a monthly retainer designed to complement a part-time or under-capacity practice rather than serve as sole income. Terms will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.

Position Type: Part Time (approximately 20 hours per week); Contract; 4-month fixed-term with explicit potential to extend and grow into a multi-country clinical leadership role as the program scales; Based in South Africa, remote or hybrid with occasional in-person travel to the pilot site.

Program and Position Overview: The Economic Empowerment Program (EEP) helps poor and disadvantaged people build sustainable economic self-sufficiency through a structured curriculum covering self-worth, financial habits, income pathways, and trauma-informed support. The first delivery pilot launches in South Africa in 2026, with plans to scale to additional countries.

Several modules touch on trauma, substance use, intimate-partner violence, and emotional disclosure. To make the program deliverable in low-resource contexts, the EEP uses a tiered counselor model — in which trained lay counselors deliver clinically sensitive content under structured clinical supervision, with clear escalation to specialist care.

The Clinical Lead will design and lead this clinical architecture: the lay counselor protocol, the training curriculum, the supervisory structure, and the safeguarding escalation pathways. The role starts with the South African pilot and is structured with potential to extend as the program scales. The Clinical Lead will report to the Economic Empowerment Lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design the clinical model for the EEP's tiered counselor program — protocol, training curriculum, supervisory structure, and escalation pathways
  • Train and clinically supervise the lay counselor cadre and the local clinical supervisor for the South African pilot
  • Serve as the program's senior clinical authority on safeguarding, including holding escalation decisions and verifying referral pathways
  • Conduct quality assurance — session fidelity review, case discussion, and refinement of the protocol based on pilot experience
  • Document the model and lessons learned to support expansion into additional countries

Christian Culture: The work at Love Justice International (including the duties listed above) is conducted within a culture that strives to emulate Christ and make Him first and central. As part of our team, we seek staff who embrace the following expressions of what it means to Abide in Christ, our first Global Value:

  • Our primary identity is in Christ
  • We believe God is sovereign over injustice
  • We are made, called, and led By Christ
  • We commit to connect with Jesus
  • Prayer should be central to our work
  • Our conduct is our testimony

We believe that our mission is not only about what we do but how we do it—through faith, prayer, and obedience to Christ.

Qualifications:

  • Mission & Faith Alignment
    • Mature Christian faith and agreement with our Global Value to "Abide in Christ"
    • Agreement with our Core Value "Be the Kingdom" and acknowledgment of our Statement of Faith
    • Passion for justice and advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations
  • Education & Experience
    • Master's degree (or higher) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field; HPCSA registration as a Clinical or Counseling Psychologist required
    • 7+ years of post-qualification experience, including supervisory or training roles; experience with task-sharing models (Friendship Bench, mhGAP, PRIME, or similar) strongly preferred; experience with trauma-affected populations preferred
  • Competencies & Skills
    • Ability to design clinical training curricula and supervisory protocols
    • Strong supervisory skills, particularly for non-specialist providers in resource-constrained settings
